2026 ITAG Board of Directors Application

There are many ways to contribute to the ITAG mission. If you are interested in being considered for serving on the ITAG Board of Directors, please complete this application by November 6, 2026. 

ITAG BOD Qualifications
ITAG welcomes a wide pool of candidates for open board positions who support our mission. This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about ITAG’s mission and gifted education in Iowa. Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • Participate in and support ITAG's mission  
    • Maintain membership in ITAG
    • Attend ITAG-sponsored conferences
    • Attend and actively participate in committee meetings and committee work as scheduled by the committee chair
  • Show evidence of competency in and/or passion for gifted education
    • Demonstrate advocacy and leadership experience (e.g. starting a parent group, presenting professional learning opportunities, etc.)
    • Understand gifted education issues through the perspective of an educator, parent, professional, or community member
    • Have other board-level experience, such as serving a nonprofit board, committee, or participating in other board-level service (e.g., governance service, policy writing experience)
    • Exhibit personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to advancing the mission of ITAG
ITAG’s Board Members serve a two-year term and can serve no more than three consecutive elected terms. Board members elected in Fall of 2026 will serve a term that runs from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2028.

Responsibilities:  
A Board Member will support the work of ITAG and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. Specific Board Member responsibilities of leadership, governance and oversight include:
  • Know and uphold ITAG bylaws, policies, and procedures
  • Approve ITAG's annual budget and business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Create the policy decisions that support the strategic plan and mission of ITAG
  • Participate in the development and annual monitoring of ITAG's strategic plan
  • Adherence to Conflict of Interest policy of ITAG
  • Act as an ambassador for ITAG, representing the best interests of the organization on all issues raised in board meetings, based on preparation and careful consideration of agendas and supporting materials
  • Attend all board meetings throughout the year (approx. 6)
  • Serve on at least one board committee at the request of the President
  • Create presentations for annual fall conference, articles for quarterly newsletter, and/or other board or committee initiatives
  • Recruit new board members for the organization
  • Contribute to the annual reviews
  • Serve as an advocate for the Iowa Talented and Gifted Association
  • Maintain confidentiality with board work.
  • Support board decisions in word and action.
